There are hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of veterans memorials located throughout the Golden State dedicated to the military service of the men and women who have worn our nation's uniform. These veterans memorials range in size from the simple plaque on a wall in a public building or in a park, to large structures, such as buildings, bridges and even freeways. Until now, there has been no central repository for information about these memorials. Senate Bill 1635 (Chapter 392, 2000), authored by former California State Senator Adam Schiff, established the California Veterans Memorial Registry that is available on CalVet's website.
The work on the Registry has been a journey, rather than a destination, and it is our sincere hope that we will be able to record information on most of the memorials in California over time, knowing that we may never identify and register them all. Our goal is to list the location, description and condition, and provide a map to of all known veterans memorials as a further tribute to those who served in the military. With the invaluable help provided by cities, counties, veterans organizations, and members of the public, CalVet has been compiling information and adding it to the Registry.
We hope you enjoy the Registry website, and will visit from time to time to view additional memorials as they are added.
