Yountville Veterans Home Cemetery

The Yountville Veterans Cemetery is located on 11 acres of oak-covered hills in the northwest corner of the Yountville Veterans Home; this historic cemetery marks the resting place of over 5,700 veterans and dependents.  The cemetery currently accepts only the interment of the Veteran Home's residents and their eligible dependents.  Eligibility for interment is equivalent to the requirements for burial in a National Cemetery. For additional information you may call the office at (707) 944-4815.

Eligibility

CalVet determines eligibility for burial in a State veterans cemetery in accordance with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) requirements for national veterans cemeteries.  In general, eligibility is established if a veteran died on active duty, or served on active duty (other than for training) and was discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.  Additional eligibility criteria can be found on the USDVA's website.

Veterans whose character of discharge is a bar to eligibility may still gain access to burial benefits through a discharge upgrade or a character of service determination.  Contact your County Veterans Service Office for more information, and read the guides developed by Swords to Plowshares on how to obtain discharge upgrades and character of service determinations.

Veterans or their families can apply for eligibility on a pre-need basis, or at their time of need.  Pre-need determination allows a veteran and his/her family to establish eligibility in advance, and is intended to simplify and assist the veteran's next-of-kin at the time of death.  There is no cost for applying for eligibility, and establishing eligibility does not obligate the veteran or the veteran's dependents to be placed at the cemetery.  To apply for eligibility, fill out CalVet's application form, and submit it to the appropriate cemetery along with a copy of the veteran's discharge or separation document (clearly showing the character of the discharge), and if applicable, copies of a veteran's marriage certificate and death certificate.  Same-sex couples are eligible for burial in California's state veterans cemeteries, provided at least one spouse is an eligible veteran.
